Autodesk has
launched a new version of their comprehensive 3D animation and
creation software Maya in a new version called Autodesk Maya LT which
has been created specifically for indie developers and smaller
companies.
Autodesk
has clearly been watching what Adobe
did, and has decided to try
a similar pricing model for its very expensive
3D asset and animation tool Maya.
Autodesk is
taking a different approach to Adobe, though. Its main Maya 2014
product will remain a piece of software you pay many thousands of
dollars to acquire a license for. Instead, a Maya LT license has been
created specifically aimed at indie developers who want access to the
industry-standard 3D package.
Pricing
and Availability
Maya LT is
available immediately for both OSX and Windows at a price of $795 for
a perpetual license. Term licenses are available as part of a
monthly, quarterly or annual rental plan in the near future, starting
at $50, $125 and $400, respectively.
