The Community Health Center, Inc.'s dedication building a world class primary health care system, that is committed to caring for special populations, and that is focused on improving health outcomes for our patients as well as building healthy communities grew from the experience of CHC’s founder Mark Masselli in his work with a 24-hour crisis center learning first hand “...whatever problems brought people to the crisis center, the lack of access to good, affordable health care was at the top of the list. So we decided to do something about it.”

Thus, in 1972 a free clinic offering dental services to people who were in need, yet could not afford such benefit, was started by Masselli, joined by some dedicated people in the community led by Reba Moses and Jerry Weitzman, as well as a group of Wesleyan students. This center was, as it still is today, dedicated to the ideal that “Health Care is a Right, Not a Privilege.”

Today, CHC has expanded its operations from downtown Middletown, Connecticut to 13 primary care hub/cities and 201 service locations across the state of Connecticut, delivering care to more than 130,000 patients. CHC has also expanded its primary health care services not only in dentistry, but also in medicine and behavioral health.

While the Center's quality healthcare programs are for all, CHC is specially committed to help the uninsured, underinsured, and special populations such as patients with HIV/AIDS.
