Hobby Lobby Opens New Stores, More Jobs

The once-embattled Hobby Lobby grows stronger as ever as it opens new stores in the coming months. New stores mean more new job opportunities Some of the new stores scheduled for opening are those located in Columbus, NE; Spencer, IA; and at the Hickory Point Mall, Forsyth, IL.

Hobby Lobby’s new Columbus store at 2172 33rd Ave., currently being reframed while a major renovation is underway, should be ready to open in early spring in the former Menards building at the corner of 33rd Avenue and 23rd Street. Hobby Lobby’s Columbus location, which local customers have clamored for over the past decade, is a spoke in the wheel of a major expansion the company embarked on during 2014-15. As Hobby Lobby’s store opening nears, the company will be seeking 30 to 50 local employees to fill positions for cashiers, stockers, custom picture framers, an office manager and floral designer. Likewise, new Hobby Lobby jobs are also in the offing in its new location at Spencer, Iowa.
As work continues on Hobby Lobby's new location in Spencer, the corporate office in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma announced plans to open the doors at the craft and home decor chain's 50th Iowa location in early January. "We are excited to bring our unique store to the community. Customers new to Hobby Lobby are pleasantly surprised at the size of the store as well as the crafts and home decor selection of merchandise we carry ...," John Schumarcher, assistant vice president of advertising, said. The location will bring between 35 and 50 jobs to the community paying $15 per hour for full-time associates.

Hickory Point Mall is set to gain a new anchor store next year from a familiar Central Illinois business. Mall officials announced Tuesday afternoon that craft store Hobby Lobby is slated to open at the mall by next September, with construction of the 60,000-square-foot store targeted to begin early next year. “We're always looking to bring in new business that will attract customers, and Hobby Lobby is that type of business,” she (Group marketing director Amber Westerson) said.
